Gulab Jamuns Basic Recipe At Home

Ingredients:

For Gulab Jamun Balls:

1 cup milk powder

1/4 cup all-purpose flour (maida)

1/4 cup ghee (clarified butter), melted

A pinch of baking soda

2-3 tablespoons milk (as needed to form a soft dough)

For Sugar Syrup (Chashni):

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup water

1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder

A few saffron strands (optional)

1 teaspoon rose water (optional)

For Frying:

Ghee or oil for deep frying

Instructions:

Prepare the Sugar Syrup (Chashni):

In a saucepan, combine sugar and water.

The mixture should be heated to a boil over medium heat.

Add the saffron threads and cardamom powder. Mix thoroughly.

Simmer it for five to seven minutes, or until the consistency becomes one string. To verify this, run a tiny bit between your fingers; it ought to create a single strand.

Get the Gulab Jamun Dough Ready:

Mix the baking soda, all-purpose flour, and milk powder together in a mixing dish.

Stir in melted ghee thoroughly.

Add milk gradually to create a smooth, soft dough. As needed, adjust the amount of milk.

Divide the dough into small portions and roll them into smooth balls, making sure there are no cracks.

Fry the Gulab Jamun:

Heat ghee or oil in a pan on medium-low heat.

Gently slide the prepared balls into the hot oil and fry them on low to medium heat until they turn golden brown. Stir gently to ensure even frying.

Once they are golden brown, remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil.

Soak in Sugar Syrup:

Drop the warm sugar syrup onto the fried gulab jamun balls.

Give them a minimum of one to two hours to soak in the syrup, allowing them to soften.

Serve:

You are now prepared to serve your handmade gulab jamuns! If you'd like, you can top them off with chopped nuts.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Gulab Jamuns!
